One of the most popular birthdays that people celebrate is their 50th year. Having a 50th birthday party is a special one because it marks half a century in that person’s life. Making the party a big hit can involve a lot of time and creativity. I have come up with some suggestions on how you can throw a successful 50th birthday party that everyone would enjoy.

Send out invitations to friends and family. Include special people that haven’t been seen in years. For example, an old teacher, childhood friend or a coworker from the first job they worked at. People from the past can be given some time during the party to share some special times and moments they had with the birthday person.

Dress up in fifties costumes. You can encourage everyone to come to the party dressed up from the fifties era. The women can wear poodle skirts, wig tip shoes, black cat glasses and a scarf. The men can wear white t-shirt, leather jacket, an Elvis wig and jeans. Some places you can buy fifties clothes is the thrift store and costume shop.

Create a fifties atmosphere at the party. For example, play popular fifties music such as “Don’t Be Cruel” by Elvis Presley, “Love Letters in the Sand” by Pat Boone and “It’s All in the Game” by Tommy Edwards. You can find fifties music at your local music store. Another idea for creating a fifties atmosphere is hanging posters of famous people in the fifties. For example, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Paul Anka and Debbie Reynolds.

Make a memory album representing different times of their life. You can have samples of pictures from each year of their life. You may have to ask others for help in gathering pictures. Missing a few years here and there is also fine. The memory album will make a wonderful gift that they will cherish. The memory album can be placed on a table near the entrance for everyone to view and enjoy.

Provide food that represents the fifties. For example, hamburgers, fries, milkshakes and root beer floats. For the birthday cake you can make one that looks like a record. Frost the cake with black frosting then take a fork and drag it around the outside part of the cake. Then in the center of the cake put a special message.

Hire a 50th's entertainer. Look in your phone book under party and you will be able to find many businesses that will come up to a designated location and provide some great entertainment. Many of those party businesses specialize in theme based entertainment and a 50's birthday theme is popular.

Play a few fun games. For example, have posted on everyone’s back the name of a famous person from the fifties. Then each person has to ask other people questions to find out who they are. Some famous people from the fifties include Doris Day, Anne Baxter, Connie Francis, Sonny and Cher.

These are some tips that will guarantee a fun filled memorable fifties party.
